Installing Lexipedia - step by step

Lexipedia is such a large program that the standard Microsoft install procedures don't support it. If you are having trouble with our custom automated installer please follow these alternate steps to get Lexipedia onto your Windows Mobile Device.

Uninstall Lexipedia if it's already installed.

This will ensure you don't have an old version installed.  In ActiveSync choose Options->Add/Remove Programs.  Choose Lexipedia, check "remove from both locations" and then click OK.

Connect your device with ActiveSync and run the Lexipedia install program on your PC.

For Pocket PC (with touchscreen, such as the MDA): LexipediaAppOnlySetup.exe

For Smartphone (no touchscreen, such as the Dash, Q and SDA):  LexipediaSPApp.exe

choose "run from this location" when asked.  At some point you will be asked for an install location and you must choose "storage card".

Next, you will need to download a Lexipedia database file (updated 12/29/2006).

and save it to your desktop computer.  While your device is connected via ActiveSync use Windows Explorer to copy the Lexipedia.lx file to the same directory that Lexipedia is installed in (usually \Storage Card\Program Files\Lexipedia).  If there is already a Lexipedia database file there you may have to delete it first.  It will be the largest file in the directory.

TIP: If you have a memory card reader on your PC you can copy the file in about 2 minutes.  Copying over an ActiveSync connection can take upwards of 1 hour.  Even on devices where you have to remove the battery to get to the storage card it is still worth it.
